Manager in the NRW police force
The NRW police force offers university graduates who have passed the second state examination in law or the second examination (state examination) for the higher general administrative service direct entry into the higher police enforcement service as a police councillor (m/f/d).
LAFP NRW

As a direct entrant, your future area of work will be in one of the core police areas (emergency response/deployment, crime control, road safety work and central tasks). As a manager in the police enforcement service, you will primarily work strategically and conceptually. 

We will only be able to inform you of the specific assignment/first function and your associated place of work shortly before the end of a two-and-a-half-year induction phase. One of many possible initial functions in the area of crime control would be, for example, the management of a criminal investigation department in the crime directorate of a district police authority. In the area of emergency response/operations, the management of a command post would be conceivable.

Recruitment requirements
  • Studies: You have successfully completed the second state examination in law or the second examination (state examination) for an office in career group II, office group of the second entry level of the general administrative service.
     
  • Citizenship: You are German within the meaning of Art. 116 of the Basic Law or are a citizen of another EU member state.
     
  • Landesbeamtengesetz: You meet the requirements for appointment as a civil servant in accordance with the Landesbeamtengesetz NRW and other civil service regulations.
     
  • Age: You have not reached the age of 40 by the recruitment date (exceptions possible in accordance with § 14 (5) LBG NRW).
     
  • Fitness for police service: You are at least 163 cm tall and submit proof of completion of the German Sports Badge by the recruitment date, which is not older than twelve months at the start of the application period.
     
  • Language skills: You have proof of English language skills at B1 level or over 6 years of English lessons from lower secondary level.
     
  • Driving license: You have a class B driving license for vehicles with manual transmission.
     
  • Soft skills: You have strong interpersonal skills, convincing communication skills, stress resistance, flexibility and a high level of self-motivation. You also stand up for the free democratic basic order
Application and selection procedure
  • The required application and selection process usually begins in the summer of the year preceding recruitment. However, it is possible to apply all year round. You have until June 3, 2022 to apply for a position starting June 3, 2023. 
     
  • The selection process takes place over three days and includes the following components:
     
    • 1st day of the procedure: Cognitive performance test, personality structure test, decision test for leadership in the digital space, knowledge test to measure the competence of value orientation and digital competence as well as police medical examination (at the LAFP NRW in the Münster training center)
       
    • 2nd day of the procedure: Assessment Center (at the LAFP NRW in the Münster training center)
       
    • 3rd day of the procedure: Individual interview with a selection committee of the Ministry of the Interior of the State of NRW
