HANG UP! - Against telephone scams
Our new prevention campaign against telephone scams has received prominent support

On Wednesday (29.05.) at 10:00 a.m., the head of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district police authority, District Administrator Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke, and the head of the Crime Directorate, Criminal Director Christian Kampa, invited numerous representatives of the press to the presentation of a new prevention campaign against telephone scams at the district hall in Grevenbroich. In addition, representatives of our cooperation partners, Sparkasse Neuss, Volksbank Düsseldorf and Neusser Bauverein, representatives of the senior citizens' advisory councils of the towns and municipalities in the Rhine district of Neuss and celebrities also took part in the presentation of the AUFLEGEN! campaign.

Senior citizens in particular are often specifically targeted by con artists as victims of telephone fraud. There are cases in which perpetrators have stolen well over 100,000 euros. The perpetrators are constantly developing new strategies to get hold of money from people acting in good faith. The number of cases is rising.
Public relations and prevention measures can make a significant contribution to reducing the number of cases in this area of crime and protect more victims from financial loss. The aim of the new AUFLEGEN! campaign is therefore to achieve the widest possible reach and address the target group of senior citizens directly.

Senior citizens should be sensitized. They should be aware of the tricks used by the perpetrators and immediately HANG UP!

Help us too! Inform yourself and talk to your relatives about the scams used by con artists.

Our police department was supported in the campaign by numerous celebrities.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank:

Rita Süssmuth, former President of the German Bundestag.

Wolfram Kons, TV presenter

Horst Lichter, TV presenter

Sören Steinhaus, U21 Handball World Champion

Nici Kempermann, front woman of Kempes Feinest

Räuber, Cologne cult band

Posters and postcards are now available from our crime prevention department for authorities, clubs and associations, medical practices, law firms, etc. Give us a call on 02131 300-0 or send us an poststelle.rhein-kreis-neuss [at] polizei.nrw.de (email).
