Mobile in old age - but safe!

Bicycle seminar Mobile in old age
Mobile in old age - but safe!
Under the motto "Mobile in old age - but safe!", the Heinsberg police are offering a new series of seminars to interested people aged 60 and over.

Aims and content of the traffic seminar

The Heinsberg district police authority's road safety advice service is aimed at "mobile road users aged 60 and over" who take part in road traffic either by bicycle/e-bike and/or car.

With this seminar, the police want to promote and strengthen the skills of ageing "active" drivers in road traffic. Participants have the opportunity to optimize their own driving behavior and learn what more they can do for their safety.

The seminars last three or four days.

  • On the first day, participants are introduced to new developments in the traffic area and changes to traffic rules as well as technical innovations.
  • The second day deals exclusively with bicycles/e-bikes/pedelecs and includes theoretical innovations (e.g. the obligation to use cycle paths), tips on how to behave and the legal basis.
  • The car is the focus of the third day. In addition to imparting basic theoretical knowledge, practical exercises are also carried out on and with your own vehicle in a safe environment. Useful vehicle assistance systems and how they support the driver are explained.
  • The fourth day is again entirely dedicated to bicycles. Here, in addition to basic theoretical knowledge, skills can also be tested on your own bike (on a small course) and behavior in road traffic can be clearly discussed. This day is only offered at the request of the participants and with a separate appointment.
