The topic of fraud is more topical than ever, as the number of cases and enormous amounts of damage show. In recent years, fraudsters in the Rhine district of Neuss have scammed between 500,000 and 1,000,000 euros per year. From grandchildren scams and shock calls to fake waterworks or police officers, the inventiveness of the perpetrators is almost inexhaustible.
At the beginning of December 2021, the "Together against fraud" campaign was launched with a press event at the market in Meerbusch-Büderich.
The police in the Rhine district of Neuss and the town of Meerbusch had previously worked closely together to produce both large-format posters and an informative brochure on the scams used by con artists, which they presented to the public together. Alongside the crime prevention experts, Christoph Kaiser and Stefanie Friese, and the head of the Meerbusch police station, Thomas Pilz, were also present at the meeting with District Administrator Petrauschke and Meerbusch Mayor Bommers.
The aim: to reach as many people as possible and thus prevent crime. With this in mind, the brochure "Together against fraud" and large-format poster messages were created, which provide comprehensive and clear information about the tricks used by fraudsters and warn against them, as well as helpful tips and contacts.
A total of 5,000 brochures were initially printed as part of the campaign. The informative brochure is now available free of charge from the police and the town of Meerbusch.
